Your lymphatic system helps eliminate your body’s waste. A healthy, active lymphatic system uses the natural movements of smooth muscle tissue to do this.
However an injury, surgery, medical conditions, or other damage can cause fluids to build up in your lymph system and your lymph nodes.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) is an unique, gentle type of skin massage technique that promotes lymph to drain out of a limb into an area that drains normally. In addition to improving lymphatic circulation, MLD also increases blood flow in deep and superficial veins

Lymphatic massage is not recommended for people with the following conditions:
congestive heart failure
history of blood clots 
stroke
current infection
liver problems
kidney problems
